Anne-Marie Chagnon from Quebec is a Fine Arts graduate of the University of Quebec at Montreal. Her jewelry designs have been described as “sculptural jewels.” Her creativity springs from her search for asymmetric equilibrium, vitality and movement.“ For as long as I can remember, I always loved making all sorts of objects. As a child, I recycled my mom’s jewels, making new ones by welding them with my dad’s tools.” Today the materials have changed but the passion remains whole and bold. In 2003 Chagnon came to the attention of the immensely creative and popular Cirque du Soleil. They commissioned her to create an exclusive jewelry collection that travels with the Cirque all over the world. She is currently working on a new collection for them. Versatility in function is an added feature of some of her jewelry. Larger pieces titled Saturnin and The Gontrand can be taken apart and worn as an ensemble rather than a single piece. Chagnon’s unusual and beautiful contemporary jewelry is handmade of fine pewter, colored vinyl and glass. Sometimes, semi-precious stones, horn and bone are also used. Earring posts and wires are surgical steel. Chains are Rhodium plated and no component in her work contains nickel. Prices from $25 |
