Stacey Embry

"My typical artist’s statement, “it feeds my soul”, is the simplest way for me to express what my art means to me.

When I first left college and started teaching I wanted my students to develop skill, so much that at times we sacrificed creativity. I was teaching them what I was doing in my own art. I live in a rural community, for acceptance I painted “pretty” images with little room for expression. I felt fine with the work until I showed it in a bigger arena. Then I realized that my work was missing something, me.

I started painting and let myself get lost in the texture the color, all the elements involved. The creating was wonderful, I felt so fulfilled. Then I showed the work, this is when my soul felt right. No longer am I confined to the safety of acceptance, in fact the chains were broke the first time I watched someone shake their head at my work and voice disgust with it. People now interact with my work; wanting to touch it, hating it, loving it, it doesn’t matter all the interaction is amazing.

This is what art is about, sharing myself, good and bad with others so that my soul is no longer hidden but is seen in all that I am."

Stacey's work is both large and small: 6x6 to 51 x34 and ranges in price $20.00 to $500.00
